Krista Cain - Neurodivergence-affirming counselor
Currently virtual only.
I’m Krista Cain (she/her), a late-diagnosed neurodivergent human, compassion-monger, and believer in post-traumatic growth! I am licensed in Florida and Pennsylvania, and I provide individual mental health counseling for adults. I specialize in:
1. Helping adults who are or believe they may be autistic, ADHD, and/or PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile
2. Helping parents whose kiddos are or may be autistic, ADHD, and/or PDA
3. Pregnancy, transition to parenthood, and parenting, including postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety
4. Grief and loss, including miscarriage and infant loss
My mental health counseling philosophy is based out of trauma-informed, client-centered counseling, which means that I see counseling as a partnership between the client and I. I believe that you are the expert on yourself. Together we create a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space where you can explore and experiment. As clients are interested and consent, we can incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, low-demand parenting, low-demand living, Dr. Ross Greene’s Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (also known as Plan B), and understandings of brain biology, polyvagal theory, attachment, compassion, and culture.
I recognize neurodivergence as normal variation within the diversity of the human experience. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, anti-racist, and fat-positive. I recognize my white, cishet, skinny privilege and actively work to decolonize my practice.
I also have significant experience helping clients find meaning in life while living with anxiety, depression, chronic disease, cancer, caregiving, and other life transitions. I think about mental health from a wellness perspective: it isn’t about not being unwell; it’s about constructing a life driven by your values and prioritizing the supports and accommodations that will help you live life in the ways you choose.
