Dominic | Person-Centred Counsellor | Bradford & Brighouse, West Yorkshire
I’m Dominic, a BACP-registered, NCPS-accredited counsellor with nearly 20 years of experience across NHS mental health services — inpatient, community, and crisis settings — and now running my own private practice, Counselling with Dominic.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia at 21, during my university years, and more recently — around two years ago — I received a diagnosis of ADHD combined type. Both have shaped not just how I work, but how I understand myself, and honestly, the ADHD diagnosis in particular reframed a lot of my life experience in ways I’m still sitting with.
My approach is person-centred at its core — I believe you’re the expert on your own life, and my job is to walk alongside you rather than direct you. Over the years I’ve woven in elements of mindfulness and other tools picked up through CPD and two decades of working in mental health. I don’t follow a rigid formula; I follow the person in front of me.
I work with adults across a range of concerns, with particular interest in anxiety, carers, and ADHD.
I also offer email counselling — something I hope helps break down barriers and opens up another way in for people who struggle to speak, or who worry about the confidence it takes to start therapy in a more conventional way. Sometimes the written word feels safer, and that’s completely valid.
