Career Coaching for Neurodivergent Professionals | David O'Byrne

About Me
I am a late-diagnosed AuDHD professional, and that experience is at the heart of everything I do as a coach. I know what it is like to spend years wondering why the workplace feels so much harder than it should, and I know the profound shift that comes when you finally understand your own neurotype. That lived experience, combined with rigorous professional training, is what I bring to every coaching relationship.

My work sits at the intersection of career coaching, leadership development, and therapeutic understanding. I hold a Higher Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am a Student Member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), and I have completed IACP-accredited CPD training specifically focused on working with autistic clients, neurodivergence, and eating differences. I am also a certified Neurodiversity Coach through Efficient Coach, a programme accredited by multiple professional bodies, including NCCAP, IPHM, CMA, and ICAHP.

This blend of therapeutic training and coaching expertise means I can work with the whole person, not just the professional challenges on the surface, but the deeper patterns, beliefs, and experiences that shape how you show up at work.

What Can I Help You With?

Whether you are just starting out in your career, navigating a difficult workplace situation, or considering a major transition, I offer practical, compassionate, and neurodivergent-affirming support across a wide range of areas.

Career navigation and progression, from securing your first role or promotion, to understanding how your neurotype shapes your working style and where you are most likely to thrive.

Interview and CV preparation, presenting yourself authentically and confidently to potential employers, without masking who you are.

Workplace challenges, managing conflict and stress, difficult relationships with managers or colleagues, and the particular exhaustion that comes from operating in environments not designed with neurodivergent people in mind.

Work-life balance and burnout prevention, building a sustainable working life that protects your energy and supports your long-term well-being, not just your short-term performance.

Navigating disclosure; thinking through if, when, how, and to whom you disclose your neurodivergence at work, and what accommodations or adjustments might genuinely help.

My Approach

I work in an integrative, person-centred way, which means I do not apply a one-size-fits-all model. Instead, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including elements of cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, and narrative frameworks, to create a coaching experience that is tailored to you, your neurotype, and your specific goals.

My sessions are a safe, non-judgmental space. You will not be asked to mask, to “fix” yourself, or to fit into a neurotypical mould. The goal is to help you build a career that works with your brain, not against it, one that is authentic, sustainable, and genuinely fulfilling on your own terms.

Professional Background and Qualifications

Beyond my coaching and therapeutic training, I bring substantial real-world leadership and organisational experience to my work with clients. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership, a member of the Institute of Directors, hold an MBA from Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University, and hold a Black Belt in Lean and Six Sigma. This means I understand the corporate and organisational world from the inside, the unwritten rules, the political dynamics, and the structural barriers that neurodivergent professionals so often encounter.
