Cathy - Psychodynamic counselling
I work with people who are neurodivergent and their families and friends, offering an autistic service as I am diagnosed dyscalculic and autistic myself. I have experience of supporting people through diagnosis, discovery of their talents, challenges and recognition of their own value and self worth. You may be questioning your direction in life, wondering how to improve your relationships, or perhaps you want to deal with a specific issue.
I offer a psychodynamic approach, believing that our past experience shapes our present choice, behaviour and habitual ways of thinking. We assume we are what we are; by challenging this in a supportive environment we can adapt to the present and move on to our future. I truly believe that autism can be a disability, but these traits that we have are also strengths to be used. If we know how to harness them we can achieve what we hope for.
You may want to explore your current choices such as employment or relationships, bereavement, anxiety, learn more about how you got to where you are, or to solve a problem that is in your way at the moment.
Psychodynamic counselling for autistic people is unique, from my perspective. I take an interest in the strengths you have, and the sensory preferences you use. I have spent many years adapting theory to make it more compatible with the needs of people with autism. I am a registered member of BACP and of UMHAN. I belong to BACME, an organisation for clinicians who work with people with CFS/ME, and to NSPA.
