My story:
I’m thrilled you’re here, and I’d love to share a piece of my story with you.
My son was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of nine. Watching him struggle with school, sleep and especially self-esteem often feeling powerless to help. As we navigated the world of ADHD together, I started noticing familiar patterns in myself. My poor working memory has been a daily issue since childhood. My school reports were filled with comments about my “butterfly brain”; it left me feeling like I was never quite measuring up to the expectations around me. However, I had a tendency to hyperfocus on things I was passionate about, to the point where hours would slip by unnoticed, but it’s also why I was able to achieve my MA in Teacher Training and become a University Fellow.
Anxiety has also been a constant battle; it’s not just an emotional experience but something that seems to affect the entire nervous system: dealing with low self-esteem in the past and ruminating thoughts seemed to be a common feature too. Something had to change. ADHD coaching helped me to realise that making changes is a process, but one that’s taught me the importance of self-care and understanding my own needs.
Inspired by my son’s resilience and my own diagnosis, I reached out to neurodivergent students at the University of Central Lancashire where I was a Lecturer in Teacher Training. Helping them navigate their challenges and find strategies for success was immensely satisfying. The natural progression was to become an ADHD specialist coach. I trained at ADDCA (the ADD Coach Academy), one of the only ICF accredited ADHD coaching schools in the world.
My main goal as a coach is to help you improve your relationship with your ADHD/ AuDHD. I can help you understand your neurodivergent traits, embrace them (neither as a super-power nor as a hindrance), and together develop unique strategies that work specifically for you. Whether it’s prioritising, finding the right focus, or navigating the emotional landscape of ADHD including RSD (rejection sensitivity disorder, I’m here to guide you with empathy, understanding and a touch of humour.
Thank you for reading my story.
Warm regards,
Nicky Baird-Walker
