Lisa Mulvihill - Dyspraxia assessment for adults and adolescents
Dyspraxia/DCD is a neurological condition that affects movement and co-ordination (organisation of bigger and smaller movements) which can affect the performance of day to day activities ( at home, in school, during play, at work).
It is not related to intelligence but can sometime affect people’s cognitive and executive functioning skills.
Some of the signs may be noticeable from a early age while other may only become obvious as a child/adolescent becomes older and they become more independently responsible for skills of everyday living. Dyspraxia can affect a child’s gross motor skills such as riding a bike and playing sports and can also affect fine motor skills such as handwriting and tying shoelaces.
Dyspraxia is a lifelong condition that can present in different ways in adulthood. Learning how to drive a car, shaving, applying makeup, managing college and work options may all be impacted upon for young adults. (Dyspraxia Ireland website)
