Hi, I’m Dawn, founder of The Emotional Edit. The name was inspired, ironically, from watching home organising programmes. I was drawn to the sense of calm and order they created; something I longed for and aspired to bring into my own life.
It wasn’t until much later that I understood how my difficulties with organisation and overwhelm were directly impacted by undiagnosed AuDHD. I recognise how therapy offers a similar kind of emotional “decluttering”.
The idea of the Emotional edit, is a review, reflection, recovery and reclamation of who you truly are.
My work is rooted in the Person Centred Approach and grounded in the belief that we each carry an essential truth, that our true self is worthy, whole, and waiting to be met with compassion. and empathy.
For many of us, especially those who are neurodivergent, that self has had to adapt, mask, and make itself smaller to survive.
As a late-identified AuDHD adult, I know the ache of being misunderstood, the exhaustion of holding it all in, and the longing to just be without shame, performance, or pressure.
I understand how the stories we’ve inherited or absorbed from others can bury our truth, our voice and limit out true expression.
I offer a space to gently lay those stories down. A space of emotional decluttering if you will , where we explore what’s truly yours and what was never meant to be carried.
Aligned to the work of Carl Rogers, I hold the therapeutic relationship as central to the core of our work together. I will meet you with full acceptance, authentic attunement, deep honesty, and empathy. I will offer compassionate challenge and quiet attentiveness to what’s left unsaid.
My practice is deeply intuitive, neurodivergent-affirming, and relational at its core. I don’t believe in “fixing” . I firmly trust that you yourself , have within you the answers. I believe in understanding you fully, in witnessing you. Gently, slowly there can be a return to yourself, gently and without demand. Your simply need to be willing.
You will hear me speak with you as I use curiosity to reach the places beyond your defences. I use gently enquiry and humour offering a safe and trusted space and place for you. My clients have shared that they feel “seen for the first time”.
Whether you’re navigating the unmasking process, sitting in the quiet grief of being unseen, or simply yearning to feel more connected to your own inner truth you’re welcome here. Just as you are.
I also support those with Bereavement and Loss and volunteer with a Bereavement charity.
I look forward to support you as you navigate your journey.
A little about me
I was Special Guardian for 10 years and understand the challenges of raising and supporting a child with developmental trauma and neurodivergence. I understand the isolation, self-blame, overwhelm and exhaustion. To gain deep understanding about childhood trauma I gained a Diploma in Raising The Traumatised Child. I understand at a deep level the various blocks, defences and challenges that childhood ACES can create, both in the child and in the parent.
My background is the NHS. Most recently I supported patients with mental health issues and emotional challenges within Accident and Emergency.
