Niamh Jimenez - Neurodivergent-affirming Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Hi, I’m Niamh.
…And you are very welcome here.
I’m an integrative psychotherapist, which means that I draw from a range of evidence-based therapies depending on your unique needs, preferences, and way of processing the world. Existential psychiatrist, Irvin Yalom, once described his clients as “fellow travellers,” and this is a phrase I love to borrow. It definitely captures how I see the human beings I work with: not as “patients,” symptoms, or problems to “fix,” but as my equals journeying through life.
I am also a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, who recognises that there is no “right” or ”healthy” type of brain. As an autistic practitioner, I blend lived experience with ongoing training and knowledge of the latest research on autism, ADHD, and AuDHD.
I am deeply passionate about supporting late-identified autistic adults (18+) to explore who they are, identify and advocate for their needs, and reclaim the right to live authentically on their own terms.
What to expect from therapy with me:
It’s really important to me that you feel safe and heard during our time together. I do my utmost to create a therapeutic space where you meet my open and genuine self, and we can explore what life is really like from your unique perspective. You will be welcomed and accepted as you truly are, if you choose to share that with me. Together, we can work to reduce feelings of anxiety or distress, making it possible to (re)connect more deeply with your core wants, needs, and the things that matter most to you.
I thought it might be important to mention that, although therapy is a serious business, it does not have to be free of humour and the occasional therapeutic belly laugh. I love to laugh with my clients during our sessions, especially in those moments when the world or aspects of being human just feel totally absurd.
My qualifications and experience:
I have an MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy from Tivoli Institute. As a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), I follow the IACP’s code of ethics and engage in continual professional development. I am also a member of Black Therapists Ireland and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee of the IACP.
I am a deeply curious human who loves to learn. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I completed two degrees in the area of science: a Master’s Degree in Chemistry (MChem) from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and a Master’s in the Physical Sciences by Research (MRes) from the University of Oxford, England. I previously worked as a freelance journalist covering mental health for The Irish Examiner and The Irish Independent, and as Mental Health Editor for SpunOut, the youth information and support platform.
