Neurodivergent-Affirmative Psychotherapeutic Counselling for Individuals and Couples with Leo Ricketts
If you are neurodivergent, if you feel that you experience the world differently from a lot of other people and wonder about exploring that, or if you are close to a neurodivergent person and want to better understand your relationship with them, then working with a therapist like me who is ND might be useful.
I speak Neurotypical fluently, but Neurodivergent is my native tongue! I am fully supportive of whatever is useful for my clients – whether that is self-diagnosis, support through an assessment, or exploring and reframing their experience of their life and of the world – my knowledge, understanding, curiosity and practice could make us useful allies in navigating your way through.
If not, I have access to a network of other neurodivergent therapists around the world and might be able to help you with an onward referral. Get in touch and let’s see if we’re a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.
I am autistic and ADHD (this combination is sometimes written as AuDHD), and as a neurodivergent therapist this has deepened and enhanced my practice, especially my work with neurodivergent people. I came to understand my AuDHD brain late in life but that understanding has made so much sense of my experience of the world.
My background is in the creative and media industries. For twenty-five years I worked in music, journalism, design, television and in the digital world. My own experiences with counselling and therapy led to my change of career. My core training is in Transactional Analysis (TA) and I hold a postgraduate diploma in TA psychotherapeutic counselling.
I have worked with NHS clients and at a mental health charity and am in private practice which I run from my home. As part of my continuing professional development (CPD) I regularly attend specialist training and workshops to enhance and update my practice. Alongside my client work, I am chair of the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in North London (ACPNL).
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists (NCIP). I also belong to The Relational School – a community of psychotherapists and counsellors who are dedicated to broadening their understanding of the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship.
Like the majority of therapists, I am in regular professional supervision and strictly adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework which supports the importance I give to safety, confidentiality, respect and equality.
I am proudly autistic and a combined ADHDer (or AuDHD if you like).
