Natalie McCarron, ADHDer and Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, working with children, young people and adults to understand their neurodivergent profile and build strategies around it
I work with neurodivergent children, young people and adults at whatever point they have reached in understanding their own profile.
Some people come with an assessment report and no real sense of what it means for them day to day. Some have been through an assessment that did not lead to a diagnosis and still recognise traits that shape their life. Others are earlier than that and are working out what fits.
Where a profile of strengths and differences already exists, we start there and make it concrete. Where it does not, we can build one together, working out how communication, attention and energy actually play out in your own life rather than in general terms. This is not an assessment and I do not give diagnoses in this work, though I do diagnostic work elsewhere. What it produces is a shared understanding you can use.
From there the work is practical. What changes at home, at school or at work, what you ask for and how you ask for it, and which strategies hold up on a difficult day rather than only on a good one. With children and young people I would typically work with the family too, because the strategies that last are the ones the people around the child understand as well. Our work together is more about working out how to ensure the environment fits you rather than treating you as the thing that needs fixing. What I want people to leave with is a clear sense of how they work, language for explaining it to other people, and a few things that reliably help.
Where speech, language or communication needs come up, I can work on those directly or say clearly when someone would be better served elsewhere. That depends on what the need is, so please feel free to ask.
Sessions are one-to-one and online, and usually last 60 minutes. Some people find that too long in one go, and some want longer, so we agree what works for you and adjust the fee accordingly. There is no fixed programme and no set number of sessions either. Some people want a single conversation to get unstuck. Others want a longer piece of work. Either way we make a plan together at the start, agreeing what we are working on, roughly how many sessions that is likely to take, and how often they happen. I will be clear with you about what I think is needed rather than leaving it open, and we can revisit it as we go.
Professional Credentials:
I am an HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist specialising in neurodevelopmental assessment, and a member of the RCSLT. I have additional specialist training and CPD in the ADOS-2, ADI-R, MIGDAS-2, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Talking Mats, and Motivational Interviewing. I am currently completing a diploma in trauma-informed practice. I hold an enhanced DBS and am a member of the PVG scheme. I have spent several years assessing autism within multidisciplinary teams in the NHS and private sector, which means I know what an assessment report can and cannot tell you, and I have worked with children, young people, adults and families to make sense of a profile and put that understanding to use to help them thrive in everyday life.
I offer a free 15-minute call first, with no obligation, so you can ask questions and get a sense of whether we would work well together.
