Lauren Reading-Gloversmith, Neurodivergent-Affirming Counsellor for Adults
I’m Lauren, a person-centred experiential counsellor (MBACP) offering online counselling to adults across the UK. I work with many neurodivergent clients, including autistic people, ADHDers, AuDHDers, dyslexic and dyspraxic people, and those with other neurodivergent experiences. I also welcome people who are beginning to wonder whether neurodivergence might help make sense of their experiences.
You might be looking for support with burnout, overwhelm or emotional dysregulation; executive function difficulties and inconsistency; sensory sensitivities; masking; self-esteem; relationships; or feeling misunderstood, rejected or different. You may be newly exploring or have recently identified as neurodivergent and find yourself looking back over your life with a new understanding of yourself. We might explore identity, internalised ableism, self-advocacy, boundaries, relationships or simply what you need in order to feel more like yourself.
You are never only one thing. We don’t have to make neurodivergence the focus of our work just because it is part of your experience. I’m interested in the whole picture and how different parts of your life and identity intersect with the way you experience the world.
My approach is neurodivergent-affirming, collaborative and engaged. I don’t see you as something to be fixed, and you don’t need to arrive with everything figured out. We can slow things down, explore what’s happening for you, notice patterns and make sense of experiences that may have felt confusing or difficult to put into words.
I’m comfortable following tangents, making connections and changing direction when your thoughts take you somewhere unexpected. You can think out loud, jump between ideas or arrive without a neat starting point. My role is to stay alongside you and help us keep track of what emerges.
Sessions are 50 minutes and usually weekly to begin with, providing consistency while we build our therapeutic relationship. Where appropriate, we can later explore fortnightly sessions. I also welcome conversations about reasonable adjustments, including pacing, sensory needs, movement, breaks and communication preferences.
I have lived experience of neurodivergence alongside professional training and ongoing CPD. I have worked with clients who identify as neurodivergent, including through counselling in arts and education settings, and I also have a background in the arts and music industries.
Above all, I aim to offer a space where you can come as you are: without masking, performing or needing to make yourself easier to understand.
