Susanne Sklepek-Hatton: Person Centred Experiential Psychotherapist (MUKCP Accredited)
About me
Hi, my name is Susanne and I am a neurodivergent Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapist based in Nottingham. I offer therapy face-to-face as well as on Zoom and over the phone.
Following first contact and a free introductory call during which we establish whether I am the right therapist for you, I commit to seeing you at the same time and place on a weekly basis. As a person-centred therapist I will meet you authentically and with full commitment to be alongside you (be it in a virtual or physical space). Hearing all aspects of your experience we will take time to get to know your inner world, however complex and conflicted it may seem to begin with. Experiences such as childhood trauma, unmet childhood needs, discrimination as well as suspecting to be/ being diagnosed neurodivergent (especially in adult life) mean that we sometimes live with an inherent sense of ‘not being ok’, ‘not good enough’ or even ashamed of who we we are. We might have received a formal diagnosis such as complex PTSD, depression and/ or anxiety as a result. The world might feel like it’s too much or we might not feel much at all. Being with you in a trauma informed way, providing psycho-education where appropriate (in order to enhance self-understanding and self-relationship) offering unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruent relationship to all parts of you we will embark on the journey of healing the most important relationship of all: your relationship with yourself. From our first encounter until the end of the therapeutic journey, it is essential that you remain in charge of the speed as well as varying degrees of depth of engagement. This is instrumental in re-establishing psychological safety as a foundation for genuine self-connection agency and a sense of wholeness from which flow, agency and connection follow.
Training, qualifications & experience
Following previous careers in higher education and the arts, I feel lucky and privileged to have found my own professional ‘home’ in training as Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapist at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (MSc, Distinction). My training included several years of undergoing my own personal therapy which gave my my own experience of the deeply transformative effects of feeling seen, heard and ‘felt’ in a safe therapeutic space.
I have experience working with a wide range of clients of different genders, ages, sexual orientations and cultures with varied presentations and depth of issues. I have undertaken additional training that has allowed me to work with clients who have experienced individual or long-term childhood trauma and/or whose needs as children were not met by their caregivers. I also have experience working with clients with Autism and ADHD and I am particularly interested in the intersection between trauma and neurodivergence (whether self or externally diagnosed). I am currently participating in an ongoing programme called SBSM (Smart Body/ Smart Mind) that is focused on post-traumatic nervous system healing and the return to an embodied, purposeful way of being.
Amongst others I have undertaken further training in the following areas:
Working with Shame
Working with Child Sexual Abuse – Hope for Healing
When Trauma Gets Stuck
Working with Trauma Triggers and Flashbacks
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Working with Trauma Memory
Inner Child Workshop
IFS in Action: Leading Clients to Self Leadership
Understanding & Working With Autistic Clients in Therapy
