Siobhan - Accredited EFT Tapping Practitioner
I am an autistic EFT tapping practitioner, accredited with EFT International. I discovered I was autistic about 5 years ago (I am 40 now) and, while there was joy at realising for the first time that there others who thought like me, who understood, there was also a huge amount of grief at realising all the painful experiences that could have been avoided, anger at realising the scale of the damage done to so many, and more. It has been quite a journey! One in which I have learned to unmask (much of the time, there are still spaces in which it is unsafe to do so), set boundaries for my own well-being, grow in self-acceptance, find joy in things I love doing (and often did not allow myself before) and more. EFT tapping has been a constant help throughout. EFT tapping is a combination of gentle tapping on acupressure points on the face, hands and collar bone, with cognitive and exposure therapy. It allows emotions to be gently and safely felt and released. It is well-known for results with PTSD, anxiety, fears or phobias, eating disorders, and even pain (if caused by underlying stress). It can be used as both a self-help tool (learn and apply the basic method to feel calmer in the moment, wherever you are) and with a qualified trauma-informed practitioner for the more serious or complex issues and to get to the root of things for bigger change (PTSD, anxiety, fears, etc.). It can be used too if you have interoceptive differences (perhaps some difficulty identifying an emotion or a sensation in the body) but going to a practitioner who is familiar with those is a good idea. I aim to provide a welcoming and safe environment where you can be yourself. Questions are very welcome. Sessions can be arranged over zoom or in-person in Mayo. It is a good idea to schedule a free call or chat (or an email) so that we can talk first and check that the issue is one I can likely be of help with. If you are curious about EFT tapping and would like to dive into the research, I encourage you to check the ‘Evidence Based EFT’ website or the ‘Research’ page on the EFT International website. I look forward to meeting you.
